What is your set-up?
Our standard line-up is a 7-piece band:

  • 2 x Trumpets
  • 2 x Trombones
  • 1 x Saxophone
  • 1 x Bass (tuba or sousaphone)
  • 1 x Drums

What do you wear?
We take our lead from you. Our standard look is smart casual: dark trousers, open-neck shirts, blazers or jackets – always finished off with our trademark flat caps.

What styles of music do you play?
We perform high-energy brass covers of pop, funk, and soul classics, alongside festival anthems and unique arrangements designed to get people dancing.

Can we choose the setlist?
We design the set to flow and create the best possible atmosphere, but we welcome your input. You can highlight favourites you’d love us to include and let us know if there are any songs you’d rather avoid. We can also provide a DJ service or DJ with Sax where you can let us know what to include!

Do you perform as a roaming band?
Yes. While our 7-piece arrangements are written for stage performance (with iPad stands), we offer a roaming 5-piece line-up (trumpet, trombone, sax, sousaphone, portable drums). Perfect for outdoor events, race days, or nightclubs.

Do you play during ceremonies, drinks receptions, or dinners?
Yes. We can provide acoustic sets for ceremonies or drinks, laid-back music during dinner, and high-energy performances for the evening party.

Can you do a ‘surprise entrance’ or flash mob?
Absolutely. We love creating unforgettable moments by surprising your guests with an unexpected performance – just let us know your ideas.

How much space do you need?
We don’t need a stage, but we also don’t want to take up your whole dancefloor. A good guide is 6m x 4m, which gives us enough room for instruments and a drum kit.

Do you need power?
Not if we’re playing acoustically. If we’re using a PA or lighting, we’ll need at least two sockets near the performance area. If the venue uses a generator, please let us know in advance so we can confirm power requirements.

Do you need sound or lighting?
At most events we perform acoustically – no equipment required. In larger venues (bars, clubs, big halls), amplification enhances the performance. Many venues already have in-house sound systems, but we can provide our own PA and lights if needed. Please let us know if the venue has a sound limiter, as this can affect live brass performance.

How long does setup take?
Acoustic performances: around 30 minutes.
With PA and lighting: 60–75 minutes, including a soundcheck. For safety, we ask that the space is clear during setup. Early setup/soundcheck may be possible for a small additional charge.

Where do you store instruments and cases?
We’d appreciate a private space to sit between sets and store cases safely. A lockable room is ideal, but not essential – we’ll work with whatever is available.

Do you need parking at the venue?
Yes, ideally close access for unloading instruments. Please let us know in advance if parking is limited.

How do we book?
Just email info@flatcapbrass.com or call Simon on 07557 944819.

How far in advance should we book?
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for summer weekends. However, it’s always worth checking availability – we can sometimes take last-minute bookings.

Do you require a deposit?
Yes. A deposit is required to confirm your booking. This is outlined in our T&C’s.

What’s included in the price?
Our standard fee includes travel within an agreed radius, your chosen line-up (usually 7-piece), and the agreed set lengths. Extras such as PA hire, early setup, or special arrangements can be added as needed.

Do you offer package deals?
Yes – for all our events. You can add a DJ package, or a DJ with a 30-minute sax set, alongside your live band booking for a seamless day-to-night experience.

Do you travel outside Yorkshire / the UK?
Yes. We perform across the UK and are available for international bookings. Travel costs will be agreed in advance.

Do you need accommodation?
Occasionally, for long-distance or late-night events, we may request overnight accommodation. This will be discussed when booking.

Who will be my contact on the day?
All arrangements are made through Simon (Band Director). On the day, he’ll either be your point of contact or will introduce you to one of our experienced Band Leaders, who will have all the event details.

Do you provide background music between sets?
Yes – we offer a DJ service, or a DJ with sax option, which can be added to your quote to keep the atmosphere flowing seamlessly between live sets.

Can you provide microphones for speeches?
If we’re bringing our PA, we can provide microphones for speeches or announcements – please mention this in advance.

Do you need food and drink?
Many of our musicians travel a long way to perform, so we really appreciate food and drink at events.

What happens if a band member is ill or unavailable?
We work with a trusted pool of professional musicians. If someone is unavailable, we’ll provide a high-quality replacement so the performance standard never drops.

Are you insured?
Yes. We have full Public Liability Insurance.

How long have you been performing together?
Flat Cap Brass has been performing professionally over a decade, with appearances at major festivals, corporate events, and countless weddings.

Have you worked with big clients before?
Yes. Our musicians are top professionals who have played with leading orchestras, touring acts, and on TV/radio. We’re equally at home at Glastonbury as we are at an intimate wedding.

Can we see you live before booking?
Most of our events are private, but you can catch us regularly at public gigs. Follow us on social media (@FlatCapBrass on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) for updates.
